The discovery that yoga is of value in treating diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes and asthma has inspired doctors and researchers to perform control trials in order to explain yoga’s capacity to heal body and mind in clear logical scientific terms. There is research done at Varanasi, Delhi and Pondicherry.
The trials on Asana, Pranayama, hatha yoga, relaxation and meditation throw light on mechanism of action of yoga techniques. One thing emerges clealy, that yoga leadsto a more relaxed state of enhanced physical health, stamina and endurance. CERTAIN TECHNIQUES BRING ABOUT A GENERALIZED BALANCING OF BODY PROCESSES, LIKE SHOULDERSTAND REDUCES HYPERTHYROIDISM AND ACTIVATES A HYPOTHYROID SITUATION. Nadi Shodhan pranayama balances. Bhastrika raises the metabolism and blood pressure. Certain meditation techniques resulted in decreased secretions from Adrenal Cortex
Asana, pranayama, mudra and bandha are best practiced before breakfast, lunch or dinner after a short relaxation. Yoga nidra are best practiced early in evening and Meditation before going to sleep. Yoga Nidra can also be practised at sometime in the day. In acute conditions always start with one step earlier and build up the yoga practice gradually. The asanas help to manipulate the internal physical and internal environment of the body without the aid of drugs. Specific techniques give specific results. We can begin to make more sense of the practices by attuning to our body and practising more asanas for energizing body and more pranayama and relaxation for relaxing the body.
