Code of Conduct for Yoga Teachers

  1. Uphold the integrity of my yoga profession by conducting myself in a professional and conscientious manner.
  2. Create and maintain a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the practice of yoga.
  3. Actively encourage diversity by respecting all students regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, physical limitations or religion affiliations.
  4. Respect the rights, dignity and privacy of all students.
  5. The teacher should be able to adapt her/his teaching to the students Requirements, in order to meet their individual needs and to respect their limits.
  6. Refrain from any behavior that would be determined to be discriminatory, harassing, or unprofessional to include both verbal and written personal statements, and to conduct myself in a professional and conscientious manner.
  7. Maintain and respect the confidentiality and dignity of all students and members at Hatha yoga Mysore.
  8. Foster a welcoming and nurturing environment that is safe, sanitary and supportive for the practice of yoga.
  9. Honestly present professional qualifications, training and the limitations of my skills and scope of practice. Where applicable, refer students to seek alternative instruction, advice, treatment, or direction.
  10. Adhere to the traditional yoga principles, while developing and employing the discretion to build upon and adapt those principles to all situations.
  11. Develop, foster, and live the inherent integrity of the yogic principles in every aspect of my life, and to make the practice of yoga in all its forms an integral part of my experience.
  12. To always seek to expand my understanding of yoga through a commitment to furthering my education and experience.
  13. Adhere to all local government and national laws that pertain to my yoga teaching and business and actively pursue the intelligent and compassionate involvement of government and regulating bodies as they pertain to yoga.

Meet Sunita Bhalla

Reach up, you have the sun and moon in you!

A yoga instructor whose mission in life is to propagate yoga to those who appreciate it in an art form and a scientific form.

I have done my yoga from 1989-1991 from foothills of Himalayas in Mantalai, Katra, and Delhi. My Guru is Dhirendra Brahamchari who also taught the late Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawarhalal Nehru and Indira Gandhi and her sons Rajeev Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi.

Having practiced yoga and held various workshops in Malaysia, Singapore and UAE,  I formed Gems of Yoga, a yoga studio and taught in the studio.

In the year 2000, I became committed to yoga full time. I was the force behind setting up prices, structuring programmes and maintaining the quality of yoga in the studio. I guided the instructors and helped them to customize their teachings according to UAE expectations. From 2000-2007, I organized various yoga workshops in hotels, clubs, and corporates. In August 2007, I actively became re-involved with yoga. Having formed the studio, the day to day activities of running the studio took me away from the very activity I enjoyed. In 2007, I reconnected back and started to actively also teach yoga again. My clients and students welcomed me back as they enjoyed my way of explanations and demonstrations and the depth of the subject.

My mentors are Guru Dhirendra Brahamchari, BKS Iyengar, Krishnama Charya, and my mom’s mom, Mrs. Dayawanti Sardana because of whom my love with yoga started at the age of five when she made sure that all her grandchildren were able to recite the mantras from Gita. She is no more but her blessings and her words.

Still chant in my ears and make me feel that she is smiling on me and saying, Go on Sunita, don’t stop, there is lot of work and awareness you have to do, work and spread the message till your last breath.

I will continue to do so… as a homage to my Nani and my Guru.

Dhirendra Brahmachari

Ms. Sunita is an acrredited Yoga teacher from CCRYN (Central Council Of Research In Yoga & Naturopathy) New Delhi. Her Guru at CCRYN is Dhirendra Brahamchari who taught late Prime Ministers of India, Pandit JawaharLalNehru, Indira Gandhi & her two sons Rajeev & Sanjeev Gandhi. He was assisted by Girish Jha, Dey Sir and Jha sir. The teachers were influenced by Bihar School Of Yoga tradition, the first  yogic university of India in Bihar now being called Satyananda Yoga operating from Bihar Rikia, U.K. & Australia.

Having studied for two and a half year at Mantalai in foothills of Himalaya, the abode of Shiva, Katra, the abode of Shakti and New Delhi Lajpat Bhawan and Vishwayatan Yoga Ashram with Sudha madam, Veena and Geeta madam, Ms. Sunita honed her skills in body hygiene & Physiology, Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradeepika, Shatkarma, Yoga practice, Pranayama, Samayama,Vedanta and teaching skills in an ashram setting where the day started at 5.00 am and ended at 8.00 pm away from city and distractions of modern lifestyle.

Dhirendra Brahmachari

With Swadhay she studied David Coutler, Swami Satyananda Saraswati, Mukunda Stiles, Swami Rama, Dr. Nirlambkar, Swami Sivananda, Dalai Lama, Thich Nath, Rodney Yee, Erich Schiffmen, Victoria Lapage, Desikchar, Krishnamacharya, BKS Iyengar, Swami Rajneesh, Dr. David Frawley, Hikaru Hashimoto, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, David Swenson, Shiva Rea, Aurobindo, Chinmayananda, Gurumai, Brahamkumaris, Dr. Robert Svobada, Anodea Judith, Harish Johari. She integrated the knowledge of astrology, ayurveda, naturopathy, thai Yoga, mantra, yantra and tantra yoga, Vedas and Upanishads, Buddhism studies, Jainism studies, tao philosophy, sufi philosophy, parsi philosophy to come up with yoga session comprising of yoga postures, breathing and meditation based on the individual requirement to bring growth and energyful change through the practice of her yoga. Her student taught her essence and prayers from the holy book of Quran to integrate into her practice.

Our lineage, our Guruparampara, runs in this Order: Lord Narayana, Brahma, Dakshinamurti, Dattatreya, Four Kumaras, Vyasa, Vasishta, Gaudapada, Shankaracharya, Sivananda, Omkarananda, Swami Rama, Swami J, Swami Nityananda, Kaulantak Peethadheeshwar Maha Yogi Satyandar Nath Ji Maharaj.

Our roots are in the Vedas and the Upanishads. Our Heart is Srividya; the Soul of our Being is Sri Yantra. Our Ishta Devata is Parabrahmaswaroopini Sri Mahatripurasundari. We are at the same time Siva Bhaktas and Vishnu Bhaktas because Siva and Vishnu are two of the many Faces of Parameshwari Tripurasundari. And because of our deep spirituality which is the quintessence of all religions, we belong to all religions of the world. We appreciate them, serve them, unite them and further the growth of the inner light in them.

Her schooling in convent of St. Anthony’ and graduation in foods sciences helped her to bring nutrition guidelines and drive the importance of “what we eat we become”. Having formed the first Yoga and meditation center in Dubai, UAE since the year 2000, she has been constantly involved in retaining the sancity and authenticity of Gems Of Yoga teachings of Yoga through her Sheikh Zayed center. The outreach programme of Yoga@Home has brought relief and stress release and peace of mind to a lot of signature families of Nationals of UAE and to expats of UAE who still continue to patronize Gems Of Yoga. The Blooming Of The Lotus is the outreach programmes for high stress job executives at corporates and small and medium size companies. Sunita is also available for speaking opportunities on yoga, breathing an meditation at seminars and meet ups. She has taught more than eleven thousand hours of yoga uptill now and has launched the Yoga teachers training programme from her studio Gems of Yoga. Teaching Methodology

In words of Rober Boustany,”  A system that is built from essential fundamentals to create a self consistent system for research and analysis of yoga postures, cycles of poses or processes involving several cycles.

The joints, built from bones, ligaments and muscles are the primary defining element.

Actions are secondary elements of data, and define which muscle fibers and resultant forces define these actions.

Alignment is defined as uniform pressure over the joint, in the practice of a pose. Alignment and safety are inseparable, and defined alignment arises from objective principles, that create subjective guidelines. Specifically, how close we are to precise alignment is defined by the degree of "ease" in the spine.

Pain is initially defined by the terms: compression and overstretch of a joint. Pain is evaluated to determine how to move toward alignment during the practice of a pose.

Flexibility is developed from:

First, strength of contracting muscle fibers which activates inhibiting neurons;

Second, by stretching eccentrically in most cases;

Third, by passive stretch in some muscles under specific conditions; and

Fourth, flexibility can arise by simply relaxing beyond the normal resting length.

Strength is a measure of capability, and is meaningful and safe when alignment is held in during a pose. Grasping for a pose is unproductive and often dangerous, and the goal of yoga practice is to expressed strength, and to hold a pose for a duration, and in a way that maintains alignment. When this is not possible the practice ends.

Constraints are defined limits placed on positioning during a pose. If you are in a lunge, and the knee is initially touching down, to say "lift the knee" can mean anything from coming out of the pose to a range of less drastic movements. To say: "lift the knee with the hip held in the same place" means a constraint is placed on the placement of the hip, and that more precisely defines the action.

Students often do poses without constraints, and that limits the development of poses, and can make them less safe or unsafe.

Contraindications listed are meant to define some of the conditions under which a pose should not be practiced. An exhaustive list is impossible, so contraindications are few guidelines and not necessarily the major ones. An experienced teacher is required to learn proper practice.



Sanjay

Meet Sharma, Dr. Sanjay Kumar

Dr. Sanjay Sharma, ERYT 500 Yoga alliance, PhD in Yoga and Masters of Physical Education in sports, initiated in yoga and ancient scriptures by his father in his early childhood. He deepened his quest for spiritual awakening under the guidance of his Guru Brahmrishi Babra. He has undergone various rigorous yogic practices under the guidance of his Guru. After completing his P.G. in Physical Education, he did PG Diploma in Yoga Education from Kaivalyadhama, Lonavla (Pune)in Year 2000-2001.

Dr. Sanjay worked as Head and senior Yoga teacher at Kaivalyadhama, Ahmedabad. He has also worked as yoga Instructor at Guru Ghasidas University Bilaspur (MP) and Jain Vishwa Bharti University Ladnun (Rajasthan). He conducted various yoga camps for HDFC Bank, L&T, Cadilla International, Dental Association Ahmadabad. Conducted workshops in Dubai for the executives of different companies, he is famous in the Arab countries. His yoga camps were well received by people, nearly 5000 people attended his yoga camp held at Latur (Maharashtra) in June 2004.

Dr. Sanjay joined yogi yoga Beijing (China), a leading yoga center in China as senior Yoga Instructor from December 2005 to October 2007; He founded Yorkey Yoga Center in Ningbo in year 2007 .He worked as Director and Head Yoga teacher in Yorkey Yoga Ningbo. He developed and successfully executed teacher training programs catering the need of Chinese people. He conducted various yoga therapy sessions, stress management sessions for general public as well corporate houses in China. Mr. Sanjay was Invited to demonstrate yoga practices by Indian Ambassador at Beijing to support Indian culture. This program was live telecasted for CCTV9, an International Channel. He also featured and written articles in Chinese edition of Yoga journal Magazine.

At present Dr. Sanjay is working as Yoga teacher at The Lawrence School, Sanawar (Himachal Pradesh). He teaches traditional Hatha Yoga, Astanga yoga, Pranayama and meditation. Sanjay is loved by his students for his simple and effective way of teaching, good sense of humor and ability to impart deep philosophical concepts of yoga in easy and assessable language.

Since the year 2010 Dr. Sanjay has been associated as a consultant for Yoga Teacher training Courses of Gems of Yoga and has conducted RYT 200 hrs. course for yoga aspirants.

 


Meet Ms. Katie ( can instruct in Russian language)

Ms. Katie has 10 years of practice exploring various styles of Yoga from the traditional Hatha, the disciplines and rigor of Ashtanga, the focus & alignment of  Iyengar, the creativity & freedom of Vinyasa flow and holding a regular personal practice in Power Yoga.

My first journey towards deepening my understanding of Yoga was in Mysore India. Further studying with many inspiring teachers from all over India & taking RYT 200 with Dr Sanjay Sharma at Gems of Yoga.  Further qualifying in prenatal yoga at Brahmani, Goa, India. Additionally I have attended many workshops all over the world and practiced alongside some of the leading teachers in London from Yoga Campus & British Wheel of Yoga.

While Yoga does make our bodies stronger and more flexible, Yoga’s greatest gifts lie in helping us to heal on the inside by helping our minds to become more peaceful and opening our hearts.

Strong but soft, dynamic yet meditative – encouraging students to work with respect to their own bodies rather than their ego’s, open their hearts as well as their bodies and gain internal peace & grounded contentment.

Meet Mr.Srinivas

Mr. Srinivas, 26 years old young man, born and raised an India in Andhra Pradesh, has been practicing yoga regularly since childhood. That’s more than a decade since B.K.S. Iyengar’s Light on yoga and a traditional Hatha yoga. Trained from a SVYASA Bangalore. He has realized his vision of yoga through the foundation of his brother s yoga studio, and he practiced an Aesthetic Yoga with his brother Yoga-narayan, Adapting ancient yoga techniques and postures, it is a powerful system of Yoga that works on all aspects of fitness – strength, flexibility, stamina, balance and agility. He studied Yoga intensely-Hatha yoga, Asahtanga Yoga, Raja Yoga (The path of will power), Karma Yoga, (The path of Action) Bhakti Yoga (The path of Love and Surrender) Jnana Yoga (The path of Intellect) and the various other elements of Yoga like Pranayanama ( Breathing techniques), Asana (Yoga postures) Mudra, Bandha (body locks) and Dhyaan (Meditation). He finished his graduation and subsequently his (YIC) Yoga Instructor course from Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA) a Yoga University, Bangalore, India. After his YIC, has worked as a Yoga instructor in same university for about year and moved to Hyderabad to work in his brother’s Yoga studio, he worked in Hyderabad about 5 years. Presently he is working with Ms. Sunita Bhalla, who is founder & CEO of Gems of Yoga, teaching Yoga is one of greatest service which I have with Gems of Yoga, and it is one of the most honorable occupations I have. To help someone relieve some of their suffering and see them rediscover the happiness and Love in their life is one of the great possible rewards with Gems of Yoga and Ms. Sunita Bhalla.

 


Meet Ms. Kalpana

Hatha Yoga and Breathing Teacher and Advanced Hatha Yoga Teacher .

Kalpana is a meditation teacher who uses Asanas as a meditation to enhance and explore new mind frontiers. Kalpana ‘s training started by emulating her mother and father who regularly practiced yoga. Born in Northeast part of India is a sacred city of Assam, where Pihu dance and Tea estates flourish. She gravitated to yoga and journeyed to Rishikesh, Swaroopa Yoga center often to find her answers for the questioning mind. She would sit hours in meditation and felt that she could control the fluctuation of her emotions and her journey to yoga. Culminated in her daily various yoga teacher training in Rishikesh, Svyasa, Bangalore and Delhi.

As a yoga teacher Kalpana speaks out her mind expresses freely speaks out her mind expresses freely and takes personal risks. She wants to give to the student who is ready to receive. She is not looking for approval from the student but tries to serve the student by practically showing her experience and through Yogic Methodology of Asanas, Breathing and Meditation. She is a gentle and smiling teacher who is ready to laugh with you and sharing her experiences and keeping the light and the integrity of yoga teachings. Kalpana is a creative teacher the expressions of the sequence and the way she manages her class and give modifications and the inspiring thoughts she shares.

She is teaching yoga and sometimes yoga and meditation can lead to personal expressions, emotional release and a lot of stuff. As a yoga teacher she is able to move forward, counsel the student and not taking anything personally.

Kalpana has a passion for yoga and a strong desire to teach. She can express both the poses and the coaching relationship that goes along with being a yoga teacher. She’s always reading books of her favorite teachers like Osho, Swaroopa Yoga,Yoga, Nakulesh Yoga, Kriya Yoga and implementing her new gained knowledge for her yogis evolvement. She’s always looking to ways to increase her academic knowledge of yoga as well as continue to push herself to take personal risks is the personal expression through yoga poses.

 

Kalpana is flexible in mind. She is able to give and take feedback without taking it personal. She expresses her faith by her own yoga practice. She expresses her faith by her own yoga practice. Every time she steps on the mat, even during her deepest , she affirm the of human spirit that there is a belief that things can be better. Yoga teachings can be full with practical and personal challenges. But she shows the faith on the mat and in her yoga teachings in her life.

Meet Mr. Sunil Sharma

Mr. Sunil Sharma trained in Traditional and Scientific Yoga from Kaivalyadhama, Lonavla (India), a Yoga Institute of International repute. He is Post Graduate in Psychology and has International Diploma in Guidance and Counseling from National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) New Delhi. He has been teaching yoga at various levels in India and abroad since 2001.

He has worked as Yoga Instructor in various Senior Secondary Schools under the scheme ‘Promotion of Yoga in Schools’ by Ministry of HRD Govt. of India. He has worked as Director of Yoga Teachers Training Department in ‘Yoga Summit’, Hangzhou, China. He has delivered lectures on Yoga and Philosophy, conducted Pranayama and Meditation workshops, Yoga Therapy Sessions for employees of corporate houses and Yoga Teachers Training courses from Year 2006 to 2010, during his stay in China.

He is has also worked as Yoga Instructor in Laxmibai National University of Physical Education, Gwalior, India. He has conducted theory and practical classes for the students of Graduation and Diploma courses in Yoga. He has proved himself highly effective against stress and various mild psychological disorders. His way of treatment and training has unique personal touch. He has written various articles on yoga in a health magazine Niramaya Jivan. He has profound Interest in teaching Philosophical and psychological aspects of Yoga. His areas of specialization are Asana, Pranayama, Meditation and Yogic Counseling.
