Anahata Chakra Yantra Form
Anahata Chakra Art of Deity & Rule: requisite to Meditation
The hexagon or 6 pointed star signifies the Air element which moves in 4 directions and up & down. Air (Prana) is the vital life force. It helps heart, lungsbringing fresh oxygen and energy. The star is made from 2 overlapping triangles one pointing upward, meaning Shiva and the other pointing downward meaning Shakti. The star represents balance when shivashakti are joined in harmony. The star symbolizes the balancing of energies in heart chakra between 3 chakras above and 3 chakras down. Motivated by love, desire for sharing the energy moves upward or downward.
The star of Anahata is surrounded by a circle. Color of petals is deep red and they unfold outwards representing energy movement in 12 directions. Inhalation and exhalations makes the energy flow to and from the petals activating the 10 mental modifications (Vritties).
The 12 bija mantras are also seated on these petals.
Inside this yantra there is another 8 petaled lotus luminous red like molten gold. Its location is to the right of physical heart and is connected to the goddess Chitrini. In its center is the etheric heart called Ananda Kanda (Space Of Bliss) or Hrit Pundarik (Heart Lotus). This is the seat of self in waking consciousness and dream state. The heart is the temple of God and we should meditate on the heart. This heart can be reached only when sushumna nadi is activated.
In waking state – Physical heart works but spiritual heart is dormant.
In the dream state energy flows from heart lotus to 8 petals of lotus creating vritties or emotional states upon waking up.
In Anahata Chakra is a nerve center and Bana Lingam is formed there and radiates with golden light. Rudra appears in it as SadaShiva (sada – eternal , Shiva-benefactor). He is the shabda Brahama or eternal logos. He is Omkara, the mix of A, U, M that is OM. He stands with a trident symbolic of 3 gunas Sat, Raj, Tam. His skin is camphor blue and he wears a golden tiger skin. The Damaru (drum) maintains the rhythm of heart beat. The Shiva lingam known as Bana Lingam (bana means arrow) is the 2nd lingam in the chakras. It symbolizes conscience. The force of heart lingam acts as a Guru, giving inspiration at each step to guide one along the path of upward energy movement. Increase or decrease in heart beat serves a warning that there is an error in one’s practice.
Element (tattva): Anahata Chakra element Air is colorless and formless, without smell or taste. The yantra is grey or smoky green. This element lasts for 8 minutes and meditation here is advised when air element dominates and breath flows from left nostril exciting the Ida Nadi.
The seed sound is Yang and the carrier of this is Black Antelope or Musk deer. This is the symbol of heart. The special quality of Musk deer is thatit is enchanted by the smell of Musk. Not realizing that it is inside his navel it runs till it is tired. Similarly the supreme Truth, the cosmic consciousness, is in us , yet we are searching it. Graceful and gentle, the deer depicts the nature of 4th chakra person. The eyes of the deer are symbolic of purity and innocence. The eyes of a fourth chakra person are equally attractive and pure. The deer is said to die for pure sounds. In past the hunters would play “Todi raga” on flute to entice a deer. The 4th chakra person loves inner sounds (anahata nada).
Deity: Ishana Rudra Shiva the lord of North East, Ishana Shiva is completely detached from the world. He is in peaceful state and Ganga flowing from his hair is cooling and purifying self-knowledge “I am That” Aham brahama Asmi. He is camphor blue and wears tiger skin symbolic of the tiger of mind that dwells in the forest of desires. The snake coiled around his body are the passions that he ha tamed. He holds a Trident in the right hand and a drum in the left hand.
Ishana Rudra Shiva signifies that the 4th chakra person has overcome worldly attachments and lives in balance between internal and external world. Energy is balanced in all 6 directions and desires do not effect the aspirant.
Shakti: Kakini is the doorkeeper of Anahata Chakra. She is Rose colores and naple yellow / white according to some other sources. She has beautiful glittering eyes and is dressed in light blue sari. Beautiful ornaments adorn her. She is self generating, self emanating, self pervading in 4th chakra. Like air she penetrates everywhere and provides energy through emotional frequencies of bhakti or devotion. She is kundalini shakti form which directs the energy upwards. She has 4 hands holding:
Kakini has 4 faces like moon. She is meditated upon as moon faced or “Chandramukhi”, 4 headed goddess. Energy flows equally through 4 heads into 4 aspects of the individual self:
Kakini is also the power of Bhuvaneshwari, one of 10 mahavidyas.
Kakini is graceful, joyful, responsible for creation of devotional poetry, devotional music and visionary art. It is different from the mundane art, poetry and music of second chakra. The creativity inspired by Kakini synchronizes with rhythm of heart and cosmos. It is universal. It brings calmness and peace to mind, ego and intellect. It dissolves the I- consciousness.
Kundalini Shakti appears as a beautiful goddess for the first time sitting in lotus pos, padmasana in a upward facing triangle. She is luminous like ten millions sun and cold like ten millions moon. Dressed in white sari, she is serene. She is Adya (first born), Bala Shodashi (the 16-year old virgin), Tripura Sundari (the most beautiful in the three worlds) and Mahavidya or Sri Vidya (spiritual knowledge). She is in selfless spiritual devotion (bhakti) of with him.She is no longer destructive or coiled around the Lingam, she sits separately in a meditative posture. She is young, divine and luminous. The aspirant can communicate with her, gain her favor and cross Vishnu Granthi (the emotional love that attaches one to certain spiritual order). Divine love pervades the sadhaka.
Seated in the lotus posture, kundalini shakti embodies Aahata Nada, the cosmic sound or White sound that pervades everywhere. This sound begins in the heart chakra as Om, the seed of all sounds (shabda brahama). This sound called Pranava is sheer concenterated prana energy. When the sound potential shabd tanmatra begins to operate, it manifests as matrikas (sound units, letters of alphabets. It is stated in gayatri tantra that Kundalini is in the form of 50 matrikas. She is the power of speech and sound. She has 2 forms.
The sound units arise in her ,embed in her and dissolve in her. Even after the dissolution of matrikas she remains in her subtle form ,which is of the nature of consciousness and is the embodiment of highest spiritual knowledge.
The five mouth positions are areas where the tip of the tongue is placed prior to making the given sound. The tongue is then moved backwards or forward depending on the position. It is important that the proper positions are used for each of the sounds as indicated. Tongue position is one of the elements that makes Sanskrit such a powerful and universal language for chanting. Each sound has it’s own unique tone.
The key to learning the mouth positions is practice. We have included an area to practice writing each of the sounds. As you write the letters pronounce them aloud, this will assist you in your learning. You will quickly develop a recognition of the letter to the sound.
Yang, the seed sound of air element is produced with the tongue resting in the air within the mouth after touching the palate. When this sound is produced properly the spiritual hear vibrates and any blocks in the cardiac region are opened. This bija mantra gives one control over air, prana and breath. It aids automatic uspension of breath over long time ( Kevala kumbhaka). YANG is a radiant gold color and is the sound form of the deity Vayu, the lord of the air who has 4 arms.
The seed sound of the 12 petals is
The anahata sound or shabad brahama is produced here in this chakra.
Anahata Chakra is a center for transformation and devotion. It is like a jewel. Sufi ask aspirants to imagine the white light in Anahata 8 petals at meditation. The shining light is meditated as one’s true self. Meditation at this center with pratyahara and kumbhak (suspension of Breath) lead to renunciation, tyaga and vairagya. It leads to non dual state of consciousness (turiya). It imparts spiritual knowledge and 8 superpowers (siddhis) to aspirants. They are:
Kundalini is aroused through selfless devotion and the dual energy of sound matrikas and the vital life force (prana) in pranava. Through pure love of divine, kundalini withdraws and one becomes firm in asana. Metabolism slows down and a prolonge breath suspension occurs.Feelings are all absorbed in kundaini. Sensory function stop and consciousness becomes fully internalized. A state of fine balance in mind and body is achieved. Deep consciousness starts but the kundalini still has to cross the visuddhi chakra and ajna chakra before reaching the sahasrara chakra and piercing the Rudra Granthi (the knot of the attachment to I-consciousness).
By siddhi of fouth chakra the aspirant masters language, poetry and all verbal endeavors. One gains mastery over the senses (indriyas), the mind, the desires and physiological functions. The body becomes disease free and attractive to all sex and age.All relationships become pure and male and female aspects are balanced. Gaining wwisdom and inner strength the aspirant becomes a swami.People feel love and peace in their presence. They find love of God in everything and everywhere.Faith in divine makes them a source of faith for others even aethists ad non believers. They are harmless and everybody feels secure in their presence.
Kundalini reaches the Anahata Chakra where all which is therein is merged in Her Body.
Fire and Form and sense of Sight dissolve themselves into the Tattwa of Air.
The Bija of Tejas Ram Yam.
It gives sudharma, god tendencies, and the plane of sancity, balance and fragrance. Poor is experienced if negative karmas are enacted. They overcome the preoccupation of the lower chakras like security (first chakra), sensuality and sexuality (second chakra), name, fame, authority, social status, power and physical immortality (third chakra). A 4th chakra siddhi person is a saintly person. This aspirant is free from anger, lust jealousy etc. the aspirant is friendly, loving, patient, calm and has influence on others. The movement is graceful and rhythmic and love is flowing from their being through their eyes, touch, hand gestures. They are both childlike and wise and respected by all.
If the heart has been opened it is possible for non spiritually inclined person to be a good father, mother, brother, sister, wife. They are mother and father and selfless in their love and energy in the 4th chakra increase.
Conscious Development: This Chakra is said to be concerned with developing compassion and empathy in an individual. It is also believed to be the point at which opposites in the psyche become balanced (e.g.mind and body, masculinity and femininity, love and hate etc.). Through this Chakra a more harmonious state of mind is gained so that one can emphasize with others dilemmas instead of simply resorting to hate and revenge. One is able to give love more unconditionally, excerpt a calming influence on others, feel compassion, and experience a deep sense of peace and centeredness.
UMO Perspective: Through the fourth Chakra we attain an innate understanding of psychological issues. We begin to see that we are all confused to certain degrees and it is this confusion that is the root cause of all disharmony. Hate, anger, insecurity, and many other negative conditions are the product of a confused mind and as we realised this, and develop an innate understanding of the complex psychological issues that relates to living in this turbulent world, we begin to stabilize and develop an empathy produced by wisdom and understanding.

The heart wheel in Tibetan Buddhism is the location of the indestructible red and white drop. At the time of death, all the subtle winds of the body dissolve and enter into this drop, which then leaves the body into the Bardo, intermediate stage, and then into rebirth. The heart wheel in this model is circular, white, and has 8 petals or channels that reach downwards. These channels divide into 3, the mind wheel, speech wheel, and body wheel, and go to 24 places in the body, after which they divide into 3 again, and then into 1000, producing 72000 channels, known as Nadi which spread out throughout the whole body.
The heart wheel is very important within meditation. In the lower tantras, the recitation of mantra is done from the heart. At first, a mantra is recited verbally, then mentally, and then inside of the heart a tiny moon disc and a flame is imagined, from which the sound of the mantra is heard ringing out. In the higher tantras, the Anuttarayoga Tantra of the Sarma schools or theInner Tantras of the Nyingma school, the practitioner attempts to dissolve the winds and drops into the central channel at the level of the heart in order to experience the Yoga of Clear Light; this is one of the practices of the 6 yogas of Naropa.
In the Tibetan scheme of chakras there is also included a chakra known as the Fire Wheel. Its position is not, however, the same as the Hrit/Surya chakra, but is instead above the heart and below the throat.
On the kabbalistic tree of life, the central sephirah, Tiphereth, is associated with the heart region. Christian kabbalists in particular associate this sephirah with love, healing and Jesus Christ.
The Sufis manage a system of Lataif-e-sitta, that are positioned at various points on the body, and at the level of the heart there are 3 positioned horizontally. To the left of the chest is the Qalb, or heart, the Ruh, on the right hand side of the chest, and the Sirr, or secret, of the innermost heart, between the two of them.
The Qalb is called the heart of the mystic, which is caught between the downward pull of the lower nafs, and the upward pull of the spirit of Allah, and thus it can be blackened by sin. It may be purified by recitation of the names of God.
The Ruh is the centre of the spirit, the breath of Allah, and when awoken it counteracts the negative pull of the nafs.
The Sirr is the secret or innermost heart, called the heart of the heart, where Allah manifests his mystery to himself.
In Qigong the middle Dantian is located in this region. This Dantian is one of the three furnaces that transform energy in the body. The middle Dantian transforms the qi energy into shen, or spirit energy.
